Sie bereiten Arbeitsabläufe vor, setzen sich mit dem Fertigungs- und Montageauftrag und dazugehörigen Unterlagen, wie Montageplänen und Stücklisten auseinander und planen die Arbeitsschritte. Benötigte Bauteile werden mit manuellen oder maschinellen Fertigungsverfahren hergestellt. Die Bauteile montieren sie lage- und funktionsgerecht zu Baugruppen, indem sie sie beispielsweise verschrauben, verstiften oder vernieten, schweißen oder löten. Sie montieren auch Leitungen sowie elektrische Bauelemente. Dabei beachten sie Schalt- und Funktionspläne. Aus Bauteilen und gruppen setzen sie Kompressoren oder Drucklufttrockner zusammen. Außerdem stellen sie benötigte Funktionen ein und prüfen, ob die gefertigten Produkte wie vorgesehen funktionieren.
